Traders & Investors Club Meeting - 1st May 2007
This is a very exciting evening for the Traders & Investors Club as it will be our first meeting at the Kensington Close Hotel and we have a very interesting evening in prospect.
This evening's presentations will include:
Keeping An Eye On Your Portfolio
Kevin Barry will give a short presentation to introduce the Club to new members and guests and describe why and how the Club came into existence. If, like most of us, you have money tied up in managed investments such as pensions and unit trust funds, you may be in for a surprise.
How Does The Market Actually Work?
Barclays Stockbrokers is the largest private client brokerage in the UK and winner of many awards, including Investors Chronicle 2006 Broker of the Year Award and Best Stockbroker Service at the ProShare Private Investor Awards 2007.
David Harbage, Fund Manager Barclays Investment Services and Philip Northey, Director, Barclays Stockbrokers will give us an overview of how the Market is structured and what actually happens when you buy or sell a share. They will also talk about the opportunites to diversify your portfolio in the brave new investment world.
The Global Marketplace
Steve Beaumont of the Online Trading Academy will introduce us to the concept the global marketplace and explain why no market is unaffected by what is happening in all other markets. He will talk about the strong correlation between the US and UK markets and why it exists.
Tonight's Speakers
David Harbage joined Barclays Trust Company in 1974 where he has principally managed investment portfolios for high net worth private clients, pension, charity and trust funds. In addition to being a senior member of Barclays’ fund management team, with a prime focus on UK equity portfolios, David’s work experience has been extensive. Roles and responsibilities, beyond his core skill set, have included: UK (equity & convertible) Analyst, Business Development Manager and Lead Facilitator of a Quality Programme within Barclays’ retail and institutional investment operations.
David is a qualified and active member of both the Chartered Institute of Bankers, having obtained the Trustee Diploma, and the Securities Institute.

Philip Northey is Head of Distribution at Barclays Stockbrokers, the execution only Brokerage business of Barclays Wealth.
Prior to assuming this role, Philip was the Director of Barclays Bank Trust Co. Ltd. He joined Barclays Wealth in October 2005 from Abbey/Groupo Santander, from his role as Head of UK Branch Sales and Service Development. He held a number of roles at Abbey, including Director of Client Management of Inscape, where he was responsible for launching and establishing Abbey’s wealth management service for mass affluent clients.
Philip is a member of the APCIMS Retail Markets and Retail Strategy Committees. He served as a member of the FSA’s Working Group on Generic Advice, as part of the national strategy for Building Financial Capability.
Having worked in education since 1993, and qualifying at the University of Herfordshire in 1995, Steve Beaumont has taught a variety of audiences. In both Further Education and Secondary Schools, his passion to help others succeed and improve has always been at the forefront of all that he does. Having been trained by OTA, he has developed his own Forex trading and broadened his Equities trading knowledge, and enjoys sharing the highs and lows of a trader.
