Traders & Investors Club Meeting - 20th May 2009
Trading Techniques: Catching A Falling Knife
Trading is not about how much money we can make but rather about how little we lose. Because trading losses are the cost of doing business and are therefore inevitable, we must keep them as small as possible.
This evening, Kevin Barry of the Traders & Investors Club will be demonstrating how he identifies and trades market reversals. With a reversal strategy, we can use very tight stops because, if we are wrong, we know about it very quickly and can exit the trade immediately. If we are right, we have entered our trade at the bottom of the move which maximises our profit potential.
How can we determine where the market is likely to reverse its course? All will be revealed this evening.
Understanding Economics
Simon Dixon of Benedix will be delivering a crash course in the economic principles of which you must be aware in order to be a successful trader. Find out how and why current government policy was implemented and what it means to you. We shall also be looking at what effects quantitative easing will have on the economy and how it affects us as traders.
Simon will be highlighting the key economic indicators that you should be watching in order to understand where you should be focusing your trading efforts. This presentation will not be the academic stuff but rather the essential information that you really need presented in an easy-to-understand format.
An Insight Into Day Trading
This evening, we get an insight into a typical day in the life of a private day trader. Bob Bleczinski of the Traders & Investors Club will lead a presentation which, although geared towards those members with a slightly higher-level of experience, will also hopefully provide an "ah-ha" moment for our new traders.
Bob will take us through four example of his recent trades, 2 wins and 2 losses, where he will explain his setups and take questions. He will review how he identified the opportunities and how he managed his entry/target/stop/exit.
Bob will also have his live trading platform running in the background so, if a live trade opportunity presents itself, he will take the trade and manage it in realtime. If Bob's trade works out well, I'm sure that the drinks will be on him!
Market Roundup And Open Forum
In order to be a successful trader in the modern world, you must be aware of how the price of wheat or an after dinner speech by Ben Bernanke will affect your stock and property portfolios. Kevin Barry will present a brief summary of the recent global market action and throw the floor open to the audience for their take on the current trading environment.
Our Month In The Market
Members are encouraged to share their successful, or just as importantly, not so successful, trades with the Club. Have you discovered a strategy that works for you or would you like to learn how other traders have become successful? Bring your trades along and perhaps get a different perspective on how to best manage them.
