Traders & Investors Club Meeting - 9th February 2009
It Don't Mean A Thing If It Ain't Got That Swing
We talk a lot about Swing Trading but what exactly does it mean? W.D. Gann is widely credited with introducing the concept of systematic trading with the use of a Trading Plan. Back in the 1950s, he charged several thousand dollars for his courses.
At the basic level, a Trading Plan must define the market direction, a tradable trend, support and resistance levels, specific action points and money-management techniques. All of these objectives are met in W.D. Gann's original work entitled "The Mechanical Method And Trend Indicator For Trading Grains".
We are often asked to describe specific trading strategies. This evening, Kevin Barry of the Traders & Investors Club will be demonstrating how to apply Gann's Swing Trading techniques to any timeframe in any market. If you do not have a trading plan, you are very unlikely to succeed in the Market. Gann is a great place to start because his techniques are clearly defined and straightforward to implement. In fact, you don't even need a computer to trade them.
As Albert Einstein once remarked "Simplicity is often the face of God". And it won't cost you several thousand dollars either!
Meet The Market Wizards
Merger & Acquisitions
This is the fourth of a ten-part series that is being presented exclusively at the Traders & Investors Club during which Simon Dixon of Benedix will be unravelling the strategies and trading/investing styles of top institutional fund managers. If you have seen Simon's previous presentations, you will know how fascinating this series is.
This month, Simon will be discussing Merger (Risk) Arbitrage. In a bull market, companies merge in order to progress and grow their businesses. In a bear market, companies merge in order to bail each other out and remain solvent. Simon will be discussing how Hedge Fund managers profit from Merger & Acquisitions (M&A) activity whilst at the same time hedging their risk.
Market Roundup And Open Forum
In order to be a successful trader in the modern world, you must be aware of how the price of wheat or an after dinner speech by Ben Bernanke will affect your stock and property portfolios. Kevin Barry will present a brief summary of the recent global market action and throw the floor open to the audience for their take on the current trading environment.
Our Month In The Market
Members are encouraged to share their successful, or just as importantly, not so successful, trades with the Club. Have you discovered a strategy that works for you or would you like to learn how other traders have become successful? Bring your trades along and perhaps get a different perspective on how to best manage them.
