Traders & Investors Club Meeting - 23rd February 2010
Here is the Agenda for the evening:
Diversify Your Portfolio With Exchange Traded Funds
Buying and holding equities over long periods of time is NO LONGER a sensible investment strategy in the current economic climate. At the Traders & Investors Club, we regularly explore alternative investment vehicles such as currencies and commodities.
Until recently, currency trading has exclusively been the domain of the large banks and governments . Furthermore, it has been impractical for the private individual to buy and sell oil and wheat outside of the Futures market, which has traditionally been inaccessible to most investors…
… until now!
Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) are low cost – transparent - index-tracking vehicles that trade on regulated stock exchanges. ETFs enable investors to gain exposure to equity indices or industry sectors in a single trade as easily as buying an ordinary share. Unlike Unit Trusts and similar Managed Funds, ETFs do not attract high management charges and are not subject to stamp duty. Furthermore, like shares, you can trade them at any time during market hours.
ETCs work on exactly the same principle as ETFs by tracking the performance of a single underlying commodity or a group of commodities. Single commodity ETCs follow the spot-price of a single commodity, whilst index-tracking ETCs follow the movement of a group of associated commodities such as cattle, energy or livestock.
In addition to low trading costs, sophisticated investors have now got the ability to short a market, make use of leverage and trade on margin, as well as the ability to use these instruments to hedge existing portfolios. They can also be held within ISAs and Self-Invested Pensions.
It is no wonder ETCs are gaining in popularity amongst investors.
ETF Securities is not only a leading provider of ETFs but the PIONEER of ETCs as well.
In 2005 - ETF Securities created the world's first oil ETC
In 2006 - They created the world's first ETC platform on the London Stock Exchange, which provided the private investor with exposure to 19 commodities and 10 indices
Suffice to say, they know the ins and outs of the business.
This evening, ETF Securities will be sharing with us the action-steps on how you can gain exposure to these exciting markets with lower risk when compared to traditional vehicles. There will be plenty of time for Q&A so…....
… now is the time to up YOUR investment game.

Market Roundup And Open Forum - Are We About To Take Our Partners And Do The Double-Dip?
The US Dollar continues to march ahead at the expense of the Euro, Sterling and pretty much the rest of the currencies. Whatever happened to the traditional 'safe assets'? Is this the beginning of a flight to safety? Why should that be the case when everything in the garden looks so rosy? Are we heading for a period of inflation, hyperinflation - or is there a problem FAR WORSE just around the corner?
We will be tackling these questions head on.
Kevin Barry of the Traders & Investors Club will be presenting his case for an imminent, slow and painful decline of the world economy precipitated by the two ugly sisters…....
….........Deflation and Deleverage
In order to be a successful trader in the modern world, you must be aware of how the US dollar or an after dinner speech by Ben Bernanke will affect your stock, commodity and property portfolios. Kevin will also be presenting our regular summary of the recent global market action and throwing the floor open to the audience for their take on the current trading environment.
